What is Team Generator?

Team Generator is a free online tool that randomly divides a list of participants into balanced teams. Simply enter names, choose the number of teams, and let the generator create fair, randomized groups instantly. Perfect for sports, classroom activities, group projects, office team building, and any event that requires random team assignments.

How to Use

Enter Participants

Type or paste participant names into the Participants text area. Enter one name per line. You need at least 4 participants to create 2 teams.

Choose Number of Teams

Use the + and - buttons to select how many teams you want. The maximum number of teams is automatically calculated based on your participant count (minimum 2 members per team).

Adjust Settings

Toggle the Animation setting to enable or disable the shuffling animation. Toggle Sound to turn audio effects on or off.

Generate Teams

Click the Generate Teams button to randomly assign participants to teams. The results will display as color-coded team cards showing each team's members.

Frequently Asked Questions

You need at least 4 participants to create teams (minimum 2 teams with 2 members each). There's no maximum limit on participants.

You can create between 2 and 10 teams. The maximum is calculated automatically to ensure each team has at least 2 members. For example, with 12 participants, you can create up to 6 teams.

Yes! The generator uses a random shuffling algorithm to ensure completely fair and unbiased team assignments. Every participant has an equal chance of being placed on any team.

The generator distributes participants as evenly as possible. If numbers don't divide evenly, some teams may have one extra member. For example, 7 participants split into 3 teams would result in teams of 3, 2, and 2 members.

Your generation history is automatically saved in your browser. You can see past results in the History panel on the left sidebar. Use fullscreen mode to view and share the current team assignments.
